Alright, let’s talk about these here basketball glasses, or whatever you call ’em. You know, the things them young’uns wear when they’re runnin’ around tossin’ that orange ball.
What are these basketball glasses anyway?
Well, from what I gather, these ain’t your regular ol’ glasses. Nope. These are special, made tough so they don’t break when someone gets a ball to the face. I’ve seen it happen, a boy goes for a shot, someone bumps him, and bam! Glasses flyin’. These things are supposed to stop that.
Why wear ’em? Seems like a bother to me.
I used to think the same thing. Why wear somethin’ extra on your face? But then I heard tell it’s about keepin’ your eyes safe. See, that ball can come at you fast, and if it hits your eye, well, that ain’t good. And if you already wear glasses to see, you don’t want those breakin’ and gettin’ shards in your eyes. That’s real bad news.
- Protect your eyes from getting hit by the ball.
- Keep your regular glasses from breakin’.
- Help you see better if you need glasses.
So, what kind are the best?
Now, that’s where it gets tricky. There’s all sorts of brands and kinds. I heard some folks talkin’ about somethin’ called “Rec Specs Liberty Sports”, “Nike”, and “Wiley X”. Sound fancy, huh? They say these are tough, won’t shatter easy. That’s important, you don’t want somethin’ that’s gonna fall apart the first time you take a tumble.
One fella was goin’ on and on about “WX Valor Changeable Lens Sunglasses”. Said they were the best overall. I guess that means they work good for seein’ and protectin’. He was sayin’ somethin’ about how they’re good for shootin’, passin’, and dribblin’. Guess that means they don’t get in the way when you’re playin’.
Do you need special ones if you already wear glasses?
Yep, seems like you do. They call ’em “prescription basketball goggles” or somethin’ like that. It’s the same idea, tough glasses, but they got your eye prescription in ’em. You gotta make sure they’re strong, they gotta meet some kinda safety rules, somethin’ called “ASTM F803 impact requirements.” Sounds official, so I guess it’s important.
What about regular sports glasses?
Now, I ain’t sure about this, but it seems like regular sports glasses might not be tough enough. You want somethin’ made special for basketball, somethin’ that can take a hit. Don’t want to skimp on somethin’ as important as your eyes, that’s what I always say.
So, how do you choose?
Well, I reckon you gotta find a pair that fits good, feels comfortable, and ain’t gonna break the bank. And most importantly, they gotta keep your eyes safe. Go to a store, try some on, ask the folks who work there. They should know what’s what.
Final words?
Look, I ain’t no basketball expert, but I know a thing or two about common sense. If you’re gonna play basketball, especially if you already wear glasses, you gotta protect your eyes. These basketball glasses, goggles, whatever you call ’em, seem like a good way to do that. Don’t be foolish, take care of yourself.
And that’s all I gotta say about that.
