Well, y’all, let me tell ya ‘bout this here North Greenville baseball team, a team that’s been makin’ waves in the college baseball world. Now, I don’t know much ’bout them fancy stats and numbers, but I know when folks from around here get together, they sure do cheer for their boys on the field. So, if you ain’t heard of ’em yet, I reckon it’s time you did, ‘cause North Greenville’s been doin’ real good.
The North Greenville baseball team, they play over there at Ray Bea Dillard Field in Tigerville, South Carolina. That place sure gets packed up when it’s game day. Ain’t nothin’ like hearin’ the crowd roar when them boys hit a home run or make a good play. You can almost feel the ground shake from all the stompin’ and clappin’. They’s part of the NCAA Division II, so they ain’t the biggest folks out there, but they sure make up for it with heart and hustle.
Now, let me tell ya somethin’—these boys been on a roll. They won the 2022 DII Baseball Championship after takin’ down Point Loma in the big final. That game was somethin’ special. The Crusaders, that’s what they call themselves, they fought hard and came back to win 5-3, and folks around here still talk about it. That win was a proud moment for the whole town, and I reckon it brought a lotta folks closer together, cheerin’ for their team.
But they ain’t just a one-time wonder, no sir. The folks at the Conference Carolinas, well, they sure think highly of ‘em too. Back in January 2024, the coaches picked North Greenville to take home the third-straight regular-season title. That means them boys are good, and they’s been good for a while. With coaches like Landon Powell, a former MLB catcher, callin’ the shots, you know they got a good handle on how to get them players to the top. And let me tell ya, these boys are hittin’ good—eight starters with a batting average of .300 or better. That’s somethin’ you don’t see every day!
If you’re lookin’ to catch a game, they got a whole season lined up for 2024. The schedule’s packed, and if you ask me, I’d say it’s well worth the trip. They got all kinds of opponents lined up, and you can catch ‘em at different places, too. You ain’t gotta just stay in Tigerville to see ’em play. But, trust me, if you can get to one of them games, you’ll see why folks love ‘em so much.
Oh, and if you ever find yourself near Cary, North Carolina, you might just get to see ’em play in the NCAA Division II World Series, too. They’s made it there a few times, and every time they get closer to bringin’ home another championship. Last year, they even went 4-0 at the USA Baseball National Training Complex in Cary. Now, that ain’t nothin’ to sneeze at. These boys are makin’ their mark, and folks are startin’ to take notice.
Now, I don’t know if you’re a baseball fan or not, but I reckon it’d do you good to check out these North Greenville boys. They’s got a lotta heart, and they play with more passion than you can shake a stick at. You just can’t help but root for ‘em, ‘cause they sure do give their all every time they step onto that field.
So, if you’re lookin’ for somethin’ to do this season, I say go on and check out a game. You won’t be disappointed. And who knows? You might even see ’em bring home another championship. Lord knows, they got the grit to do it.
